About C.Y.

Steve Reeves and his favorite crew members aboard ‘Kokomo’

We’re pleased to welcome you to our unique blog on 30-foot and smaller yachts. I hope you’ll enjoy your visit to the site, that you’ll learn something new and that compactyachts.com will be a regular port for you online.

Here you’ll find a wealth of valuable information on the boats and equipment that make up this interesting and fast-growing segment of the yachting industry (30′ and smaller yachts). All yachts you’ll find reviewed on this site are full- or semi-displacement boats designed for pleasure cruising, and most are production boats vs. custom projects. They are power boats (gas or diesel) and, though some may be dual-purpose, we have not chosen dedicated fishing vessels for review. There are no sport boats or express cruisers to be found on this site, and you won’t find any boat longer than 30-feet.

There are also helpful features on gear, equipment, supplies and more in the ‘op-ed’ (your contribution is welcome on the opinion editorial page), ‘gear & electronics’, ‘letters’ and ‘news’ sections (see the menu bar just beneath the header), and you can place a classified ad for anything boating-related (currently free) in our classified ads section, the Nautical Flea Market.

This blog attempts to honor the editor’s passion, which is cruising a well-equipped trawler yacht (also referred to as  an “expedition yacht” or an “adventure yacht”) long distances into wilderness areas with little or no marina support.

This blog/site is edited by yacht owner and boating enthusiast Steve Reeves. Reeves makes his home near Paradise, CA and enjoys his Rosborough RF-246 (a 25′ trailerable trawler) in the inland and coastal waters of California, Oregon and Washington, as well as the coastal waters of British Columbia, Canada.

Reeves has spent most of his career in the cruise travel industry and has served as publisher, writer and editor of several newspapers, including World Cruise Quarterly and Explorer newspapers.

Boating and yachting have been of interest to Reeves for 35+ years, and he has made a point of getting to know the boat builders, their yachts and the things that make them stand out.
